Merlin Entertainments required a comprehensive suite of resort-branded room layouts to visually communicate their accommodations across their multiple UK-based resorts.
The Challenge
The challenge was to create 108 individual floor plans that not only accurately represented each space but also reflected the unique identity and branding of each resort, including Alton Towers Resort, Thorpe Park, Windsor Castle, Chessington World of Adventures Resort, and LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort. Each resort in total needed to incorporate 18 different themes, whether that was an African-themed Safari Hotel at Chessington World of Adventures Resort or the medieval charm of the LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort Castle Hotel, to the enchanting Alton Towers Resort Woodland Lodges and the fun and lively Alton Towers Resort Splash Landings Hotel.
Our Approach
To kickstart the project, we began by creating a clean, generic outline for each room layout. The initial drafts focused on accurate spatial representation of each room, ensuring we correctly positioned all furniture, from the placement of showers and sofas, to bunk beds and even outdoor hot tubs. Once we had the foundations in place, we began applying each resort’s specific branding.
Following Merlin’s brand guidelines, the floor plans came to life. Whether it was LEGO®’s iconic bold colours referenced from their bricks to Warwick Castle’s regal aesthetic, we incorporated rich historic tones with motifs that echoed their medieval theme.
Each resort’s floor plan was individually styled to reflect its character whilst maintaining consistency across the entire portfolio.
The Result
The final deliverables included 108 branded room layouts, tailored to each resort. The completed floor plans not only improved guests’ understanding of their room options but also contributed to a more consistent brand experience across all of Merlin’s resorts.
“We are very happy with the final results! Throughout the process, Strategi’s help, and support has made a huge difference, it has been truly appreciated by myself and the rest of the team.”
